FIELD WORK/ENVIRONMENTAL/SCIENCE

I like to mention my first award, received at age fourteen, when I won second prize in a New England wide junior high school science competition for investigations of a fungus that under captive conditions attacks turtle shells.

US Department of Agriculture – for my art work illustrating complex Forest Service research, and leading to a better understanding of trees and their pathology. 1980

International Society of Arboriculture – for the above work. 1984

Tudor Richards Award of the Audubon Society of New Hampshire: “For outstanding contributions to conservation.”   2011

Lamprey River Advisory Committee – “Hero for the Lamprey River Award” for research on behalf of three endangered turtle species: their natural habitats and ecologies in league with the National Park Service “Wild and Scenic Rivers” program.

United States Environmental Protection Agency Merit Award – for the above and my work in this arena in general.   1999

SELECTED DOCUMENTARIES

Not yet inventoried, itemized: A collection of video, tape, CD, and DVD recordings from over the years; interviews and documentaries, most video sessions filmed in the field, including: NBC “Sunday Today Show”. Following publication of YEAR OF THE TURTLE, Ron Steinman, producer for “NBC Today”, accompanied by film and sound crew, spent two days with me in the “digs”, shooting 13 cassettes, which were compressed into a seven minute segment aired on on the television show.

Several interviews by NH Public Radio, including three with John Walters, then host of the “Front Porch” series.

Interview on CSPAN 2, Book Channel, at the National Books Awards ceremony in NYC, upon my FOLLOWING THE WATER being named a Finalist in the non-fiction category.

Film produced by three graduate students of Tufts University on wetland conservation/ preservation issue; in which I was a central figure. Premiered in an environmental Issues Film festival in 2010.
